About this project and disclaimer
I’m Makara Sorel, DMD, a graduate of the UConn School of Dental Medicine (May 2026), and I’m passionate about the potential of AI in healthcare. My interest in orthodontics and my summer research inspired me to create a chatbot that can assist with dental-related questions. During my research, I explored how AI-generated orthodontic treatment plans compare to gold-standard plans created by board-certified orthodontists.
With the help of my boyfriend, Dan, a software engineer, we developed this chatbot using OpenAI’s GPT model. I provided specific requirements for how the chatbot should behave, and Dan implemented the solution. Our future goal is to fine-tune this model using real-world data from professional dentists to improve its accuracy and utility.
